The rain in California has hit and it will keep on coming. We want to make sure you know what to look for in terms of water damage so you are able to handle it right away and prevent further damage. Here are some tips we recommend for you:
Look for water stains on your ceilings and walls, around your bathtub, toilets, sinks and on your floors as these are the most common spots that will indicate you have some level of water damage. Other indicators are cracks in the drywall or spots that look swollen or soft to touch. Peeling paint will also be a result of water damage in your walls and roof.
Check your flooring. Tile and wood floors will manifest water damage with cracks and warping. Carpets will start to smell get soft and have damp spots.
Protect the foundation of the house by inspecting the exterior of your house. You want to look for pools of standing water that will indicate signs of poor drainage in your yard, gutter spouts that are not transporting water far enough away from the home. These can threaten your foundation.
Inspect for rust and mold. Check your water heater for rust on the tank or damp spots on the floor near it. These can indicate a leaky pipe or water seapage. Check for visual signs of active mold which is often in the corners and nooks of your home. Mold will also put out a distinctive smell that will indicate you need to do something about it.
